Introduction
By importing Google Chrome's ADMX templates into Intune, you are adding policies that allow you to configure the Chrome browser on your Windows devices. Once you've imported the Chrome ADMX file, you will have Chrome-specific settings to set and deploy using Intune's Configuration Profiles. In this article, we'll review the steps specifically for Google Chrome. To learn more about importing any third-party ADMX files, click the link below:
Prerequisites
IMPORTANT: |
Since Chrome's ADMX file references Windows' ADMX file, you must import the windows.admx first. If you don't, you may receive the following error:
ADMX file referenced not found NamespaceMissing:Microsoft.Policies.Windows. Please upload it first. |
To import Windows' ADMX file, follow the steps below:
On a Windows 10 or 11 machine, navigate to C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions.
Copy and save the windows.admx and windows.adml files to a new location.
Follow the steps in the link below to upload the files to Intune: Steps to Import ADMX Files to Intune
Import Steps
NOTE: |
The ADML file is the language file referenced by the ADMX templates. According to Microsoft, only one ADML file can be used and it must be en-US (English). |
Step 1: Download the ADMX & ADML Files
Click here to automatically download the ADMX and ADML files from Google.
Unzip the compressed file to view the contents.
Under the Windows subfolder, you'll find the admx folder.
Under the admx folder, you'll need the chrome.admx and google.admx files.
Expand the en-US folder to retrieve the chrome.adml and google.adml files.

Step 2: Import Files into Intune
IMPORTANT: |
You must import the google.admx and google.adml files first. If you don't you'll receive an error when trying to import the chrome.admx file. |
You can only import one admx/adml file pair at a time. As mentioned above, import the Google pair first followed by the Chrome pair. You'll have to follow the steps below twice; once for each admx/adml file pair:
Open the Intune Portal
Navigate to Devices > Windows > Configuration
Select the Import ADMX tab then select + Import

Select the folder icons and navigate to the recently downloaded ADMX and ADML files.
Select Next and review/create.

Step 3: Check Out the New Google Chrome Templates
While in the Intune Portal, navigate to Devices > Windows > Configuration
Select the Policy tab
Select + Create and then select + New Policy
Platform: Windows 10 and later
Profile Type: Templates
Template Name: Imported Administrative templates (Preview)
Select Create and then name the deployment.

You should now be able to see a Google folder in the list of templates.
